Top 3 things to do in Manchester

The Lowry, Manchester, England, UK - Top 3 things to do in Manchester

London may be the capital but Manchester is also a major city that has a lot to offer. Known for its music legacy, rich history and of course Manchester United Football Club, the city is brimming with culture for you to soak in as well as many things to do and see.

Whether you enjoy visiting new places to eat, shop or explore, we have the complete selection for you. You don’t have to go too far to have an exciting adventure; with MET coaches, you’re guaranteed a relaxed, safe and comfortable trip in the privacy of our luxury minibuses and coaches.

Here is our list of three things to do in Manchester.

1. Shop at Intu The Trafford Centre

The planning process for the iconic Trafford Centre was the longest and most expensive in the history of the United Kingdom. Now, the indoor shopping centre has an estimated market value of £9.2bn (2019) and is the third-largest shopping centre in the UK. It boasts a spectacular interior and numerous indoor attractions including a SEA LIFE centre, 60 restaurants, cafes and bars and over 200 stores. There’s always an exciting event happening in the Orient, from fashion shows to film premieres, musicals to road shows, there’s something for everyone. Check out the upcoming events here. With so much to do under one roof, this is the place to go for the ultimate fun-packed day out. There are many car parks for this centre that are usually crammed, but you won’t have to worry about that when you book your transport with MET – we’ll drop you straight to the door.

2. Eat at The Curry Mile

Located in the south of Manchester, Wilmslow Road famously nicknamed ‘The Curry Mile’ since the 1970s is the home of South Asian cuisine and more recently, Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine. There’s a diverse mixture restaurants for you to feast at after a day exploring the city or even after an infamous night out in Manchester – many of the restaurants and fast-food curry houses are opened till after late therefore are very popular with local students. ‘Mughli’ has been filling hungry-stomachs with traditional Indian soul food since 1991 and has since received many commendable titles including ‘One of Manchester’s Best Restaurants’ by The Telegraph and BBC Good Food Guide. Whether you’re after a fiery apna-style (traditional) curry or the dishes curated to suit the British taste (chicken tikka, bhunas and vindaloo), the Curry Mile has restaurants that will satisfy all your curry-cravings.

3. Explore The Lowry

Named after L.S Lowry, a 20th-century artist famous for his paintings of industrialised northwest England, the Lowry is a theatre and gallery in Salford Quays. The building is as magnificent from the outside as much as it is on the inside, with three theatre rooms that host a variety of performances and a gallery presenting exhibitions from around the world. At the digital art shows, you can expect to find an incredible use of sound, dance and visual art to create a stunning immersive experience from world-class digital artists. There’s a waterside terrace restaurant, Pier Eight that overlooks the Manchester Ship Canal, so you can enjoy an afternoon tea, a hearty meal or just a refreshing drink with a beautiful view. Find out which shows, exhibitions, and workshops are happening at The Lowry, here.

Explore Manchester with MET Coaches

A trip to Manchester is the perfect day out or weekend away. There’s a wealth of world-famous places to explore, legendary restaurants to dine at and exciting art to be involved in. You can even visit all the places listed above in one day with MET coaches driving you around in style and comfort- you won’t have to worry about wrapping your head around the diversions and road works that usually confuse those driving around Manchester city centre.
